Our Year Programs

Rockway Mennonite Collegiate International Program

Rockway Mennonite Collegiate logoRockway Mennonite Collegiate in Kitchener has a very active international program.

Each year approximately 50 students from countries such as China and Germany come to Rockway to attend high school. While they are here for anywhere from a semester to several years they live in Homestay. This arrangement is to everyone’s benefit. The student who is so far from home has his/her Canadian family to support them and encourage them during their stay here.

The Canadian family gets to share their home and culture with Chinese and German high school students while learning firsthand about another culture. Lifelong friendships and bonds are made through this program. WRSP has been working with Rockway as of the 2009/10 school year and is overseeing the Homestay part of their program.

Waterloo Catholic School Board International Program

Waterloo Catholic District School Board logoAs of the 2010/11 school year we now also support the Waterloo Catholic School Board’s international program. We have students coming in from mostly mainland China to study at St. David & Resurrection in Waterloo, St. Mary’s in Kitchener and St. Benedict in Cambridge.

We are always happy to welcome new families into our homestay program. If you are interested in becoming a homestay host, please feel free to contact us for more information or fill out an application and someone will get back to you.

Short Term Program

Our short term programs run anywhere from a weekend to 3 weeks and are typically Japanese high school students. Most of these students come as a large group with their school during the summer months and take English classes during the day and enjoy their evenings and weekends with their host family.

Some schools from Japan will come for a week during our school year, and then we will arrange for the group to “attend classes” at one of our local high schools to experience Canadian life.

We are always looking for families in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo to host one of these young people from Japan.

We offer Volunteer Hours to high school students whose family hosts a Japanese student from our short term program.

Occasionally we get small groups from Thailand and Colombia; these students typically stay for about 2 months. They come during the school year, and attend all classes while here, with special emphasis on English.
